A long day for the Ohio volleyball team just got longer.

Playing in their second game of the day in “Bash in the Boro” tournament, the Bobcats were swept by host Georgia Southern in three games.  The Bobcats failed to gain momentum from their sweep of South Carolina State earlier in the day and fell to 6-6 on the season.

Slow starts doomed the fatigued Ohio team, as they found themselves down five points early on in the first two sets.

Ohio jumped out to an early 5-1 advantage in the final set, but was unable to hold on to their lead and keep the match alive.

Exhaustion also manifested itself in unusually sloppy play. The Bobcats committed 21 errors, compared to the 13 they committed in their earlier win against South Carolina St.

All-MAC East stars Katie Post and Lexie Hartnett combined for 17 kills, but were overshadowed by the Eagles’ Bethany Sanford (11 kills) and Parker Small (8 kills).

The schedule doesn’t get much easier for the Bobcats, who take on Georgia State at 11 and Presbyterian at 4 on Saturday. After returning from Georgia, the Bobcats will get a well-deserved rest before they open MAC play on Friday at home against Bowling Green.
