The Athens County Commissioners are spending more money to fight drug abuse.

The appropriation of $7,000 to the prosecuting attorney's drug law enforcement fund was one of the items on this morning's commission agenda.

That money will be used to build cases against offenders and assist other agencies in the county in fighting the drug problem.

Commissioners will also approve the transfer of funds to the Athens County Emergency Management Agency.

Commissioner Lenny Eliason says the use of these funds is important to the public. "What that is is a grant for the citizens corporation.  So you're educating people about citizen action with the emergency management, increase awareness in trying to get more publicity out there so people will understand what to do in an emergency and how to interact with the emergency management agencies as an emergency (sic) transfolds," said Eliason.
