A Lancaster dental office is extending its Halloween Cash for Candy event through the end of the week.

The office of Glenn R. Burns and Jennifer J. Lape hosted a Halloween candy buy-back drive Monday, offering $1 and a gift bag per pound of unopened Halloween candy.

With the drive, the Gentle Dental Care practice is relieving Lancaster families of the extra sugar so often warned about by dentists, while giving back to servicemen and women.

Through the local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers, an organization for mothers who have children serving or who have served in the military, the candy will be shipped to military members overseas.

The Cash for Candy drive was scheduled to last for two hours on Monday, but Lape says the community did not stop giving.

"We've gotten calls this week of people who didn't realize ahead of time that that this was going on, but either saw something in the paper or heard about it afterwards. We're taking candy this whole week. People are still bringing stuff in," says Lape.

Lape says the Gentle Dental Care practice will "definitely" host a Cash for Candy drive again next Halloween.
