The Ohio wrestling team has a victory to its name. Ohio picked up its first dual win Saturday over the Appalachian State Mountaineers 20-15 in the first home match of the season.

Ohio got off to a rough start in dual match play last weekend when it dropped their first two dual contests to MAC foes Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan, respectively.

But the Bobcats started Saturday hot, with the Green and White winning its first four matches. Beau Wenger, Jeremy Johnson, Gabe Ramos (win by pin) and Jake Wojcik were all victorious for the 'Cats to begin the day.

This gave Ohio a 16-0 lead. However, Appalachian State did not go away and conjured up four straight victories of its own, which made the score 16-12. The Bobcats than had to turn their hopes to star 174-pounder Nick Purdue. Purdue wrestled the Mountaineers' Carter Downs with ease, getting the major decision in the ninth match of the afternoon.

The Cats led 20-12 after Purdue’s victory which sealed the deal for the Cats.

Ohio 1-2 (0-2 Mid-American Conference) will have one more dual match on December 12 against Chattanooga before the Reno Tournament of Champions on December 18.
