The Federal Hocking Local School District is about to be free — free of state oversight.

The Fed Hock School Board and a Fiscal Oversight Commission will meet at 4:30 today to discuss the fiscal emergency status of the Athens County District.

If things go as expected, the Commission will release the district from control.

Superintendent George Wood says he's pleased the district maintained services and programs for students during its financial difficulties.

"We came through this very, very healthy; it's not a slash and burn.  So, we're really pleased we came through this and I just can't thank the staff and the administration of this district enough for what they've done to get us here," said Wood.

The State of Ohio declared that Federal Hocking was in a fiscal emergency in May of 2007.
