A retired West Virginia State Police officer the new sheriff in Mason County.
The County Commission appointed Mike Roach to the job Thursday.
Roach replaces David L. Anthony, who resigned earlier this week. Anthony entered pleas to several criminal charges on Tuesday, including no contest to fraudulent schemes and embezzlement.
County Commission President Rick Handley says Roach most recently worked part time in the county assessor's office.
Roach will serve the remainder of Anthony's term, which expires Dec. 31. His name isn't on the ballot for this year's election.
