Two men are dead in Guernsey County.

A detective says the deaths of the two men found outside an apartment mark an eastern Ohio county's first double slaying in more than two decades.

Sergeant Sam Williams says it's the county's first double-homicide since the late 1980s.

Sheriff Mike McCauley says a dispatcher received a call around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday regarding shots being fired at an apartment complex in Coventry Estates.
Deputies found a white male dead in the front yard.

A second victim, a black male, was found lying in the yard behind the same apartment.

He had multiple gunshot wounds, but was still alive.

He was taken to a hospital but died later.

According to the sheriff, it is not known if anyone else was involved in the shootings.

Williams said deputies were hoping to speak with the woman who rents the apartment to see if she had information to help identify the shooter.

Both bodies were taken to Stark County for autopsies.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
