Athens is still under a water shortage alert issued Monday by the city's service safety director.

The city's assitant service safety director, Ron Lucas, says the city has improved in the quantity of water, but is still not at the quantity needed.

Under the alert, residents are asked not to wash their cars, water their lawns, or fill swimming pools.

The shortage alert is a result of the current power outages in the city.

Residents are also advised to:

-operate washing machines and dishwashers with full loads

-reduce the number of toilet flushes

-stop unnecessary water usage

The service safety director will issue a press release when the alert has been lifted.
