Municipal income tax uniformity.

That may not be something you're all excited about but some people think it's important.

And those people will be coming to Athens today to talk about it.

Mayor Paul Wiehl says Athens is hosting a meeting of municipal officials from around the region to discuss tax uniformity.

"Every city has a little different income tax mix and how they do it," he says, "so the discussion that's coming forward from the Ohio House is changing conditions like uniform tax due dates, extensions, how the penalties are done and how the board of tax appeals works.  These are just some of the things mentioned in terms of what they've been looking at."

Wiehl says the Ohio House is considering legislation on municipal income tax uniformity and Athens supports the idea.

A proposal to centralize collection of taxes has also come out of Columbus but Athens is against that.
