A former Parkersburg police officer was sentenced to 90 days in jail for a battery case against him.

Former Sgt. Joshua Vensel was accused of striking a suspect in a holding cell in October of 2011.

The incident was caught on camera.

Vensel was originally charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery and placed on administrative leave.

He pleaded guilty to one count of battery.

Wood County Judge Jeff Reed suspended the sentence and sentenced Vensel to probation.

Vensel still faces a civil suit brought by the suspect, Jerry Seabolt.
