These days it seems like local music fans are spoiled for choice, and this weekend is no exception.

Blackout Booking and Peacock Productions, both known for bringing stellar entertainment to Southeast Ohio, will present Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside with special guests Samantha Crain and The D-Rays this Sunday, Sept. 9, at The Union.

Since 2008, Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside have been touring the country with their signature blend of roots-rock, swing, country, jazz and blues. Originally from North Carolina, Sallie Ford joined forces with her bandmates in Portland, Ore., before garnering fans throughout the Northwest with their debut EP Not An Animal. Local audiences may remember the band from their previous shows at Casa Cantina and this year's Nelsonville Music Festival. The group is currently on the road in support of their latest release, Dirty Radio.

Ramseur Records artist Samantha Crain first attracted national attention with her 2009 album, Songs in the Night, receiving positive reviews from Paste and Rolling Stone. Her most recent release, You (Understood), also met with critical praise and was featured on NPR's Weekend Edition. In addition to her Sunday set at The Union, Crain will perform an early 6 p.m. show at Central Venue with local troubadours Bruce Dalzell and Chris Biester.

Athens band The D-Rays have been very active since their formation at a company office party in 2010. Besides playing numerous local shows, the band has taken their surf/garage sound to clubs throughout the Midwest, performing in such far-flung locales as Missouri and Kansas. Their three-song debut single, Safety First, was released in March.

Show time is 9 p.m. Tickets are available at Haffa’s Records on West Union Street.
