After dropping the season opener to Gallia Academy, the Athens Bulldogs have rattled off four straight wins. Their latest victory came against Waverly, when they dominated the Tigers at home by a score of 67-14.

The Bulldogs will try to make it five in a row when the Wellston Rockets roll into Basil Rudder Field on the Bulldogs’ Homecoming night.

While the Rockets haven’t seen as much success as the Bulldogs this season, they have won two of their last three contests, and hope to take their record to .500 for the first time this season with a win against Athens.

It won’t be an easy task for Wellston, who own a three game losing streak against Athens. The last time the Rockets beat the Bulldogs was during the 2008 season, when Wellston bested the Bulldogs in Athens by a score of 34-21.

Even with the recent success against the Rockets, Athens head coach, Ryan Adams, isn’t taking the game lightly.

“We’ve got a lot to play for on Friday night,” Adams said. “It’s Homecoming night, and we have a TVC-Ohio league title to defend, which isn’t very common over here in Athens.”

The only mutual opponent the two teams have played this season was the Jackson Ironmen. Wellston found themselves on the wrong end of a 34-12 decision at home, while the Bulldogs beat the Ironmen in a 21-14 thriller at Jackson.
