A highly-demanded psychologist who works specifically with developmental disabilities is coming to Athens.

Dr. David Meichenbaum, of Buffalo, New York, is popular for his trainings on severe behaviors relating to conditions such as autism.

The Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities worked with educational support agencies to bring him to the area in November.

Meichenbaum will be in Chillicothe on Oct. 1 at the PACCAR Medical Education Center for a similar training.

That session runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Advocate and trainer Valerie Dombroskas says Meichenbaum's experience will give attendees useful information about disabilities.

"I think it's the hands-on nature of what he does, and it's the background and training that he has that they can leave this session with him and go home and go back to school and use with the children in their care. I think that's one of the reasons he's been so popular," said Dombroskas.

Dombroskas says the group is looking forward to having such an experienced professional teach local residents.

"We're just excited because I think to be able to bring someone to our area and offer quality presentation to both parents and professionals we think is really important," said Dombroskas.

The event will take place on November 26 in Athens.
