An accused murderer appeared for a competency hearing in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Perry Buco, 21, of Cambridge, entered a plea of "not guilty by reason of insanity" to murder charges in connection to the death of Chris Caples, 47, of Cambridge.

Caples was discovered slain at his Beatty Avenue home in early April by police.

Caples was Buco's foster father.

A doctor testified that at the time of the crime, Buco did not know the error of his actions as a result of severe mental disease.

Guernsey County Prosecutor Daniel Padden requested a second evaluation.

A judge is considering the request and will return a decision within seven days.

Buco remains at the Moritz maximum security psychiatric facility to await the decision.
