Last season both teams had a combined seven losses before their game. This year both teams have only one loss in conference play, each to the reigning champs Wahama. Eastern also lost a week one matchup with Symmes Valley.
The matchup between these two has one main thing in common, ground-and-pound. Both of these offenses really know how to run the ball. Last week in Eastern’s win over Belpre, quarterback Joey Scowden had 15 carries for 262 yards and two touchdowns. As a team they rushed for over 400 yards.
Trimble can pound the running game as well. This year, versatile quarterback Konner Standley leads the team in rushing with 101 carries for 612 yards and seven touchdowns, followed by Bryce Smathers with 56 carries for 449 yards and four touchdowns.
The main question for this matchup will be which quarterback can open up the playbook and complete the huge passes? Look for both defenses to game plan against the run and force the offenses to pass. The team that will be able to open up the pass and get the crucial defensive stops will prevail.
