A Vinton County man accused of attacking a sheriff's deputy while being transported to jail changed his plea of not guilty to guilty Monday and was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Richard Puckett, 45, of McArthur pleaded guilty to an five count indictment of aggravated robbery, grand theft of a firearm, assault on a peace officer, grand theft of a motor vehicle and escape.

Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said Puckett attempted to disarm a deputy, temporarily escaped from custody and stole the transport vehicle as he was being transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on March 2.
