Athens children’s author and Passion Works Studio artist Noah Hogan will launch his second book, Crabby Grows a Pot of Soup, on Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Athens Community Center.

The book follows the adventures of Crabby, a small red crab who plants a vegetable garden in the spring so he’ll have ingredients for a hot pot of soup in the winter to share with friends.

“Crabby is based on a little stuffed crab who has traveled around the USA on our family vacations,” said Hogan, who explores his interests in biology, geography, travel and nature through his crustaceous character.

The books are being produced via Crabby ArtWorks, which is a collaboration with his mother, Mary. Like his first book, Crabby Bakes a Cake (2011), Crabby Grows a Pot of Soup features recipes and Hogan’s computer artwork.

For Hogan, 24, telling tales is nothing new.

“I’ve been something of a storyteller since I was a little kid,” he said. “My early drawings of Crabby amused lots of people and they encouraged me to write stories about him.”

Thursday’s book launch, which takes place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., includes prizes, refreshments, live music and limited edition prints of Crabby. Hogan will also sign copies of the new book.
