Ohio Runner Earns Recognition from Coaches Association

Ohio junior Juli Accurso is set to run in the NCAA Championships on Saturday in Louisville, KY, but on Tuesday she was honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Accurso was named the 2012 Great Lakes Region Runner of the Year. 

Accurso is the first Ohio runner to receive the honor and the second in Mid American Conference history. Accurso made history this year when she became the first Ohio runner to win a NCAA regional event, while setting a school record in the process with a time of 20:07. Ohio finished 12th overall as a team. 

The success of this season didn't start at the regionals. Accurso won her second MAC individual crown in a row and has finished top three in five events this seaosn. 

This is also the second year in a row that Accurso has qualified for nationals. Last season, she placed 36th and brought All-America honors back to Athens.
