Ohio Wrestling took the win against Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., 28-10.
“I thought we all wrestled real tough today. The guys were aggressive and got to their offense instead of waiting around,” said head coach Joel Greenlee.
Ohio started off the meet strong and never looked back. Ryan Garringer won the first match of the day for the Bobcats when he pinned Appalachian State’s Jesse Johnson for a 6-0 win in the 184 lbs. match.
The Bobcats went on to win six more matches in the meet.
All-American Jeremy Johnson won his heavyweight bout by a first period fall, and redshirt freshman Cody Walters kept his undefeated season alive in the final match of the day. Walters won his 174 lbs. bout against Colin Hedash 8-1 to extend his match record to 13-0.
The Bobcats improve their record to 3-3 with the victory and hand Appalachian State its first loss of the season. Ohio’s next meet will be in Reno, Nev., at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 16.
