Ohio University Softball catcher, Lauren Gellerman had a sensational week in the batter’s box that netted the San Diego, Calif. native Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week honors.
Gellerman, a senior, was locked in on the offensive side of the plate during the 2013 East Carolina University Pirate Classic Feb. 8 through Feb. 10, hitting .533 (8-15).
Six of Gellerman’s eight hits throughout the event went for extra bases, including three home runs and two triples. Her eight runs batted in and six runs scored led an offensive explosion for the Bobcats, who scored 28 runs in just five games and finished the weekend with a record of 4-1.
The Bobcat backstop was an asset for the ‘Cats nearly every time she stepped up to the plate during the tournament, slugging at a rate of 1.467 during the tournament without striking out a single time.
Gellerman will hope to keep the Ohio Softball squad rolling as the Bobcats prepare for another tournament at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. Ohio’s first two games at this event will be against two ranked teams in No. 9 Oregon and No. 18 UCLA.
