A Portsmouth man was taken to the hospital after leading troopers on a chase Monday night.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Rocky Newman, 38,  sped away after being pulled over during a traffic stop on State Route 52.

Troopers say Newman turned onto Careys-Run Pond Creek Road and crashed into a pole just after 9:30 p.m.

Newman was flown to a Huntington hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A passenger was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center with unknown injuries.

The passenger's name has not been released.

Troopers say charges are still pending against Newman.
