The Mid-American Conference announced Friday the 2012-13 Academic All-MAC team for men’s basketball. Ohio’s Walter Offutt was among the five to be recognized by the conference.

Offutt completed his senior year at Ohio University, averaging 10.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. The senior was the vocal leader for the Bobcats and excelled on and off the basketball court.

The requirements to receive this accolade are at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and participating in at least 50-percent of their particular sport. First-year junior college transfers and first-year student athletes are not eligible for this honor.

Offutt was the only Bobcat to be recognized on the list. He is in the Master’s program for coaching education and has achieved a 3.556 GPA. The guard was also an All-MAC Third Team selection.

Joining Offutt on the Academic All-MAC team are Akron’s Brian Walsh, Ball State’s Jauwan Scaife (All-MAC Second Team), Buffalo’s Will Regan, and Western Michigan’s Brandon Pokley.
