Ohio Governor Appoints Athens Judge

Ohio Gov. John Kasich appointed a new judge Monday to the Athens County Common Pleas Court. 

George McCarthy will assume office on May 28th, and must run in November 2014 to retain the seat for the unexpired term. 

McCarthy is replacing Judge Michael Ward, who recently retired. 

According to a press release, McCarthy received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1987, and earned his juris doctorate from the Ohio Northern University Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 1990.

He has worked at Mollica, Gall, Sloan, Sillery & McCarthy Co., LPA since 2002.

In 2003, McCarthy founded Athens Sandlot Baseball, and remains a board member of the organization. He is a volunteer firefighter and has been a legal advisor for the Richland Area Fire Department since 1995.

McCarthy is also a member of the Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks.
