A death investigation is underway in Gallipolis after a sailor was found dead in an apartment.

Gallipolis Police responded to a call Sunday on Upper River Road.

When they got on scene, they found the body of Steven A. Perry. He was 22-years-old.

Perry was an active sailor in the U.S. Navy.

Police say he was home on leave after returning from an eight-month deployment in the Persian Gulf.

He was scheduled to return to service in the next couple of weeks.

Gallia County Coroner Dr. Daniel Whitely says Perry did not die of natural causes.

His body has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office to determine cause of death.

The Gallipolis Police Department and Ohio BCI are investigating the case.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Gallipolis Police Department at 740-446-1313.
