Some bicycle riders want to develop their own map of Huntington.
Huntington city planner Breanna Shell decided three years ago while living in Seattle to ride her bike to work. Dan Taylor says high gas prices and the time spent trying to find a parking space prompted him to switch to a bike when he was a Marshall University student.
They're working with others on the map that Shell says would include streets that have bike lanes, and roads that have wider traffic lanes, less congestion or better surfaces.
Shell and Taylor tell West Virginia Public Broadcasting more work needs to be done to improve the bicycling experience, such as adding bike lanes and putting bike racks where people can lock them up when they reach their destinations.
