Advocates for Ohio's veterans say expanding Medicaid in the state would make 26,000 Ohio veterans eligible for the health care program.

The head of the Ohio National Guard is among several people who plan to talk Monday in Columbus about the need to expand Medicaid because not every veteran is eligible for free health care from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

State lawmakers continue to weigh whether to move forward with Medicaid expansion.

Republican Gov. John Kasich supports extending the program and called for it in his budget proposal. House Republican leaders scrapped it from the spending plan and are reviewing the idea.
