The Ohio Supreme Court has cleared the way for the retrial of a mother convicted in the drowning of her two young sons.

The court on Wednesday sided with an appeals court in allowing the retrial of Kasey Klein, 27, to go on as scheduled next month.

The state appeals court ruled in January that the trial court wrongly denied a defense effort to have Kasey Klein and her husband Richard Klein Jr. of Zanesville tried separately last year.

Kasey and Richard Klein each were convicted of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment, and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Her sons, ages three and two, drowned in the Muskingum River during a 2011 campout.

Richard Klein's new trial is scheduled for next week.
