On this edition of Conversations from Studio B, Tom Hodson talks with Ian James, chief executive officer of The Strategy Network and a gay-rights advocate based in Columbus, Ohio.

An Athens native, James received his Bachelor of Arts from Ohio University, where he studied political science. Over the years, he has produced hundreds of direct-mail pieces and winning comprehensive communications and grassroots programs for various ballot issues and public affairs measures.

James' knowledge of industrial, corporate and public relations, as well as strategic guidance through partisan and non-partisan campaign efforts, led Ohio Magazine to acknowledge him as one of Ohio's "brightest political strategists."

He and his husband Stephen Letourneau-James co-founded FreedomOhio, a statewide non-profit that plans to place the Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom amendment on the November 2014 ballot. The two were legally wed in Toronto, Canada, in 2003.

On this program, Hodson and James discuss the amendment, obstacles that James and his husband have faced in Ohio, and how societal attitudes towards homosexuality and same-sex marriage have changed, with many U.S. states seeing rising public support for LGBT rights.
