Ohio Football is still recruiting members for its 2014 recruiting class, but that didn’t stop the team from looking ahead. The ‘Cats landed an early verbal commitment for the 2015 recruiting class Monday from cornerback Maxwell Howell, as reported by Dieter Kurtenbach of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Howell is a 6-foot, 170 pound defensive back from Palm Beach Lakes High School in West Palm Beach, Fla.. According to 247Sports.com Ohio is the only offer the high school junior has received thus far in the recruiting process. Rivals.com reports that Indiana has offered Howell, but not Ohio.

The defensive back recently transferred to Palm Beach Lakes from Seminole Ridge Community High School in Loxahatchee, Fla.. Being that he still has two years of high school football left, Howell has yet to be rated or scouted by any recruiting services.

He does possess decent speed for a young cornerback and has good size at a young age. With his frame and time to grow, Howell could project to be a safety by the time he reaches Athens.

As the first member of the unofficial 2015 recruiting class, Howell has more than a year to make his final decision. National Signing Day for current high school juniors isn’t until Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015.
