The MAC released its All-Conference Academic team for baseball Friday, and six Bobcats found their names on the list as honorable mentions.
Sophomores Brice Nikithser (3.803 GPA), Tyler Wells (3.66 GPA), and Nick Plys (3.301 GPA), along with junior Scott White (3.665 GPA) and seniors J.R. Reynolds (3.890 GPA) and Dan Schmidt (3.236 GPA) were chosen to represent the Bobcats on the list.
Nikithser, a physical education major, saw action in 31 games for the Bobcats in 2013, hitting .193 with one homerun and six RBI’s in 67 at-bats.
Wells, a sports management major, was one of Ohio’s primary outfielders in 2013, playing in all but one game during the season. Wells had a little bit of a slump after a solid freshman campaign, hitting .251, with one homerun and 21 RBI’s in 191 at-bats.
Plys, a finance major, pitched in 14 games for Ohio, mostly as a long reliever out of the bullpen. He went 0-3 with an 8.53 ERA.
White, a coaching education major, was an outfielder and designated hitter for Ohio in 2013, hitting .271 with one homerun and 11 RBI’s in 125 at-bats.
Reynolds, also a coaching education major, played sparingly in 2013 as Ohio’s backup catcher, hitting only .145 with four RBI in 55 at-bats.
Schmidt, a Health Services Administration major, finished 2013 as one of Ohio’s best offensive players, while manning the shortstop position in all but one game this season. He hit .263 with five homeruns and 27 RBI in 194 at-bats.
