Stuart’s Opera House will be hitting the road--or the river, to be specific--when it hosts Pokey LaFarge on Marietta's Valley Gem Sternwheeler on Sept. 20.
The floating fundraiser, to be held on the Ohio River, will feature three musical sets from LaFarge and his six-piece band.
"We are taking you back over a century to the days when our namesake George Stuart ran his own showboat The Arizona and traveled around our region," said a news release from Stuart’s Opera House.
The fundraiser will benefit the Nelsonville Music Festival, which is organized by Stuart’s Opera House. The multi-day music festival is held each May on the Hocking College campus in Nelsonville.
The boat ride begins at 7 p.m. and will feature music from LaFarge, food, a cash bar and more. The sternwheeler will return to Marietta at 11 p.m.
Pokey LaFarge is a musician, songwriter, bandleader and entertainer whose music is a mix of early jazz, string ragtime, country blues and western swing.
Tickets are $50 plus fees and are currently on sale to the public. Tickets may be purchased by calling 740-753-1924 or visiting www.stuartsoperahouse.org. Only 200 tickets will be sold.
