Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville will host the Ohio State Fiddling Contest on Friday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m.
Part of Nelsonville's Parade of the Hills festival (Aug. 14-17), the event is nationally certified with the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest held annually in Weiser, Idaho.
That means the Ohio Grand Champion will be eligible to compete in the national contest, scheduled for June 2014.
Contestants will compete in four age groups: 12 and under, 13-18, 19-54 and 55 and Over. There are prizes and ribbons for the winners of each group.
The winners of each division will then continue on to the championship round and compete for the title of Grand Champion, as well as an additional $300 and a plaque.
There are 10 spots available in each age group. Depending on the total number of registrants, "day of" entries may be allowed if space is available, but those interested are advised to register ahead of time at www.paradeofthehills.com.
General admission tickets are $8, available online at www.stuartsoperahouse.org or at the door beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16.
