Schwendeman Powers Parkersburg South At Ripley

It was a tale of two halves at Memorial Stadium in Ripley Friday as the Parkersburg South Patriots were able to put together an impressive second half and defeat the Ripley Vikings in Coach Eddy’s Parkersburg South debut by a score of 47-35.

Brendon Schwendeman came ready to play Friday night. He finished the night with an incredible 407 yards and five rushing touchdowns on only 18 carries. With Ripley leading at 18-7 leading in the third quarter, Schwendeman closed the gap to 18-14 on a 43-yard touchdown run. He was not done, however. He then gave the Patriots the lead on an 81-yard touchdown run.

Schwendeman then added to his impressive night with yet another long touchdown run. This time he boosted the Patriots lead to 33-21 with a 65-yard touchdown run. Schwendeman continued to shred the Viking defense as he added a 54-yard touchdown to increase the Patriots’ lead to 40-28.

Despite Schwendeman’s exceptional night, Ripley was able to stay in the game. The Vikings closed the gap to 40-35 as Trevor Tucker and Jakob Harrison connected on a 29-yard touchdown pass.P. South tacked on another score with a quarterback sneak from Garret Gilkeson to increase the Patriot lead to 47-35.

Cody Smith also had an impressive night for Parkersburg South as he totaled 69 yards on 7 carries. He caught three passes for 27 yards and a touchdown as well. Parkersburg South accumulated a total of 531 yards Friday.

Quarterback Trevor Tucker had an excellent game running the ball as well Friday as he rushed for 231 yards on 28 carries. He was 8-14 passing for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Nathan Tucker had two rushing touchdowns for the Vikings. The Ripley offense accumulated 448 total yards Friday night.

Parkersburg South will look to improve to 2-0 as the Patriots will face off against Linsly next week at home. Ripley will travel to Point Pleasant as they look for their first win of the season.
