Ohio University middle blocker Alexis Pinson earned Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week honors after her performance in the Baymont Inn Invitational.
The graduate student was selected to the All-Tournament Team as she led the Bobcats to a second-place finish and 2-1 overall record on the weekend.
Pinson led Ohio (5-1) in blocks, service aces and total points during the tournament while averaging 2.27 kills per set, 0.55 service aces per set and 3.48 points per set.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native made a statement Saturday night, when she recorded 14 blocks in Ohio’s 3-2 loss to No. 24 North Carolina. This was the most blocks recorded by a Bobcat in more than four seasons.
Pinson followed up her impressive performance against the Tar Heels by contributing four blocks, four kills and three service aces in Ohio’s 3-0 win over Dayton in the tournament’s final game.
Pinson and the Bobcats look to build on their Baymont Inn Invitational performance as they travel to Bowling Green, Ky., this weekend, where they will face UNLV, No. 21 Western Kentucky and Virginia.
