Phoenix captures emotion and puts it to a fun pop beat like few other bands can do. The French band brings their “posh, atmospheric grooves” (Rolling Stone) to their Austin City Limits debut, performing songs from their newest release Bankrupt!
Formed in a Paris suburb, the group’s melodic, electronica-tinged pop styule began to solidify with the release of 2000′s United. 2004′sAlphabetical was an “emotional experience” (New Musical Express) with hits “Everything is Everything” and “Run Run Run.” The band truly exploded with 2009′s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. The album’s singles “Lisztomania” and “1901″ have ruled alternative radio and those songs helped the band win Best Alternative Music Album at the 2009 Grammy Awards. Entertainment Weekly wrote “the underlying vibe is both retro and somehow outside of time – like a memory made sweeter than the real thing it recalls.”
Released early this year, Bankrupt! takes the band to new musical levels and “blurs the lines between simple and sophisticated more effectively than Phoenix ever has before” (Spin). Thomas Mars,,Laurent Brancowitz, Christian Mazzalai and Deck D’Arcy have created another masterpiece that will ensure their spot as one of the biggest bands today. “The singer has a knack for delivering runs that nestle their way into the brain’s musical crevices, while the band pushes its sounds in engaging and occasionally urgent new directions,” wrote the L.A. Times.
