Defending national champion, Lindsey Wilson College sailed past Rio Grande Saturday night with a 6-0 victory.

The top-ranked Blue Raiders outshot the RedStorm in the first half 13-0 as Lindsey Wilson applied constant pressure throughout the half. The Blue Raiders’ Jamie Stanton led the team with three shots on goal in the first half. Although Lindsey Wilson led just 1-0 by intermission, it was clear the Blue Raiders controlled the game from the outset.

In the first 15 minutes of the second half, Lindsey Wilson scored three goals. Ayaki Shinada led the Blue Raiders offensively with a pair of goals and two assists, while Bettina Bruelhart and Anna Vig added a goal and an assist each.

Shinada got her second assist of the night after feeding a corner kick Denisa Amin, who headed it past goalkeeper Allison Kenney to make it 4-0. Lindsey Wilson scored two more goals in the final ten minutes of the match. Shinada scored her second goal of the game on an unassisted touch, and Vig ended the game making it 6-0 on an assist from Bruelhart at the 88th minute mark.

Rio’s only shot of the contest came from Kasey Crow in the 78th minute, but was stopped by Lindsey Wilson’s net-minder, Johanna Henrikson.

Keeney ended with five saves in the loss for the RedStorm.

Rio returns at Evan E. Davis Field Wednesday against Bluefield College. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
