A young woman was found lying dead on a Wellston street in the early morning hours Wednesday.
Jackson County Coroner Dr. Gregory Hawker was contacted at approximately 12:40 a.m. to come to a location on West “C” Street in Wellston.
At the scene Hawker completed his examination. He stated that 27-year-old Krystal Mullins was the victim of a single gunshot wound to the head. He said that the body had not been there for very long before he was notified.
Hawker stated that a .22 caliber pistol and a single cartridge had been found with the body. He also mentioned that two other individuals were present at the time of the shooting and that there had been an argument of sorts.
Hawker stated the death was an “apparent suicide,” but that a law enforcement investigation was being conducted by Wellston Police Department (WPD) along with the assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI&I).
A WPD representative did confirm that a shooting had occurred in Wellston and that an investigation was being conducted at this time. Hawker also stated that he ordered that an autopsy be performed.
