The grand jury investigating whether other laws were broken in the case of a 16-year-old West Virginia girl raped in eastern Ohio last year is five months into its review without criminal charges.

One of the chief issues before the 14-member panel is whether adults like coaches or school administrators knew of the rape allegation but failed to report it as required by Ohio law.

The grand jury convened by Attorney General Mike DeWine has met periodically since its first meeting in early May.

University of Pittsburgh criminal law professor David Harris says prosecutors can take all the time they need with a grand jury, which operates by different rules than regular juries.

DeWine says he can't give a timeline for the panel to finish its work.
