In their first game of the ACHA Showcase on Friday, Ohio narrowly beat Colorado State by a score of 2-1, thanks to strong goaltending performance by Aaron Alkema.

Alkema made 22 saves in his second consecutive start in goal for the Bobcats and has only allowed two goals in two games this season.

Both of Ohio’s goals came in quick succession during the second period. Tom Whetsel scored his second goal of the year on a power play opportunity. A minute later, Nick Hudeck earned his first goal of the season and put the Bobcats up, 2-0.

Those two quick goals proved to be the difference, as the Rams couldn’t get another puck past Alkema after their goal scored at 12:20 of the second period. Colorado State’s goal snapped a 72-minute shutout streak for Alkema, going back to the first period of Bobcat’s last game against Liberty.

Ohio will meet Navy in the Bobcats’ second game of the showcase at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday in Mentor, Ohio. Navy was ranked No. 17 in the most recent ACHA rankings poll released Friday afternoon, only three spots behind Ohio.
