The Christmas season just isn't complete with a telling of the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol.
The French Art Colony's Riverby Theatre Guild is preparing to bring the tale to the stage with a cast of more than 40 youth actors and a few adults.
Actors from Gallia, Mason, Jackson and Meigs Counties are participating in the project, directed by Joseph Wright, French Art Colony Executive Director.
The play, by award-winning playwright Kathrine Schultz-Miller, is a perfect family version of the tale. The production moves seamlessly through the story, retaining much of original book's charm.
Additionally, RTG's version will include a number of traditional Christmas carols blended into the show. The French Art Colony's Riverby Theatre Guild Puppet Playhouse will offer a short pre-show performance, as well.
The production will staged in the University of Rio Grande Fine Arts Auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and French Art Colony Members, $5 for students and will be available at the door.
Hundreds of local school children in Gallia and Mason Counties will enjoy performances of the production as well, thanks to a generous grant from the Ohio River Border Initiative. The show is also sponsored by Holzer Health Systems, Big Country 99.5 and Sunny 93.1.
