A southwest Ohio university is helping develop a medical program in Saudi Arabia.

Wright State University in Dayton is being given a $5.5 million grant from Qassim University to help create Saudi Arabia's first Doctor of Medicine program. It's a three-year agreement.

The Dayton Daily News reports the new program will be modeled after the Wright State program.

Dr. Dean Parmelee, associate dean for academic affairs for the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State, says Wright State faculty members will serve as mentors to help establish the new program.

Until now, medical schools in Saudi Arabia have offered only a bachelor of medicine or bachelor of surgery degree. The new program will begin in September.
