Three Bobcats Named to 2013 Field Hockey Academic All-MAC Team

The Mid-American Conference announced its 2013 Field Hockey Academic All-MAC team on Wednesday. The team, made up of 21 student-athletes, was voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. 

Three Bobcats represent Ohio University on the team. Senior Luli Gomez Teruel, junior Caelyn Hartley and sophomore Clarissa Leickly were all recognized for their outstanding achievements both in the classroom and on the playing field.

Teruel, a Salta, Argentina native, has received no shortage of awards this season. After leading the MAC in both goals (11) and points (25), Teruel was named the 2013 MAC Player of the Year in November. Later in the month, the senior was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region second team. She posted a 3.571 cumulative GPA and is an Acting/Production Design major.

Hartley played in all 17 of the Bobcats’ contests tallying one goal, two assists and four points. She is a Communications Studies/Sales major and posted a 3.907 cumulative GPA.

Leickly is the youngest of the three Bobcats to be named to the team. Leickly also saw action in all 17 of Ohio’s contests. The Gahanna, Ohio native finished the year with one assist and one point. She has a 3.872 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Exercise Science.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who excel in both academics and athletics. The student must have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for the sport and have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA.

Five Bobcats were also recognized for being an Honorable Mention to the team. Junior Ashley Cureton, senior Katherine Fenzel, junior Kristine Gegas, senior Riley Higgins and junior Danielle Rissmiller were given Honorable Mention recognition.
