Construction of Texas Roadhouse in The Market on State parking lot has the Athens Farmers Market looking for a new location beginning in April.

The executive committee of the Athens Farmers Market Association issued a news release on Saturday evening stating that representatives from the market had discussions with the mall's owners Tom Parfitt and Brent Hayes last week to discuss the transition and other potential locations.

"Since fall of 2013, the Athens Farmers Market Association Executive Committee members have been meeting frequently to review potential temporary sites if a move would be required for the 2014 season. Plans are being discussed with community partners to evaluate various sites that will be suitable for vendors and customers for the upcoming season. The board will be issuing a press release in the forthcoming weeks with information on a temporary site as planning unfolds," stated the release.

The market's executive committee is also actively working with the city of Athens, Athens County, ACEnet and other development partners to secure funding and examine optimum locations for a permanent home for the Athens Farmers Market, according to the release.

The release says the market appreciates the concern of its loyal customers regarding a new location for the AFM.

"Please stay tuned to our website, www.athensfarmersmarket.org, and Facebook page for ongoing updates for the 2014 market season. On behalf of the executive committee and all AFM members, we hope that these upcoming changes will not in any way deter our customers from supporting our vendors and wonderful market association. The executive board would also like to thank the owners of The Market on State Mall for their many years of support," the release concludes.
