Red Carpet Rolled Out For Leadership Athens County Fundraiser

Athens Countians will have a chance to take a walk down the red carpet and get their picture snapped by the paparazzi during the Red Carpet Oscar Party on March 2 at Jackie O’s Public House. The event is a fundraiser for Leadership Athens County.

Leadership Athens County is a nine-month program administered by the Athens Foundation. It teaches Athens County community members to fine-tune their leadership skills and the importance of improving the region through volunteerism and philanthropy.

This is the first fundraiser for the leadership program, according to Leadership Athens County Director Liz Pahl. The event is sponsored by Career Connections, The Athens Real Estate Company and Rocky Brands. The party is co-produced by the Ohio University Inn.

The Oscar party will allow guests to get the star treatment as they stroll down Athens’ own red carpet. Formal dress is optional.

“Get all dolled up, or wear jeans. It is Athens, after all, and anything goes,” Pahl said. “But when else do you get the chance to wear a tux or an evening gown?”

The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. and will feature the Oscars on the big screen in Jackie O’s Public House.

There will be a “best category ballot contest” in which participants can buy votes for best motion picture, actor/actress in a leading role and actor/actress in a supporting role. Prizes will be awarded to those whose ballot is chosen. There will also be a champagne toast.

According to Pahl, the goal for the event is to raise enough funds to provide a scholarship for at least one person for next year’s Leadership Athens County class. Additional funds will go to support program initiatives like leadership workshops.
