Field events were the strong point for the Ohio women’s track and field team on the second and final day of the Vanderbilt Black and Gold meet.

The Bobcats had three top-five finishes in the javelin, including freshman Ashlee Bilhimer and seniors Lauren McCullough and Olivia Vitou. Bilhimer’s throw of 39.82 meters was enough to earn her first place. McCullough earned third place with a throw of 36.04 meters and Vitou finished in fifth after her throw of 34.58 meters.

Bobcats freshman Taylor Smith competed in the high jump, and her jump of 1.61 meters was enough for a second place finish. Fellow freshman Olivia Mayfield finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.54 meters.

In the discus, senior Alexa Macri’s throw of 39.08 meters gave her the seventh place finish.

On the track, junior Kara Jackson grabbed the seventh spot in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.99. In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Mackenzie Rankin also finished in seventh with a time of 1:07.83.

The Bobcats will be back in competition on April 5 in their first home meet of the season. The Ohio Cherry Blossom Invitational will begin with field events at noon and running events beginning at 2 p.m.
