Ohio University Zanesville will be featuring the Rusty Knights Big Band for April’s Third Thursday Event – which has been moved to Monday, April 14, at 8 p.m.
The free concert will feature numbers by the Zanesville High School Blue Knights and the Rusty Knights.
The Rusty Knights Big Band was created to keep alive the tradition of Big Band Jazz in the Zanesville and Southeastern Ohio area and to give area musicians a venue to play traditional Big Band music.
Originally a practice group comprised of Blue Knights Jazz Band alumni from Zanesville High School, one thing led to another and soon the group was playing for the public.
The Rusty Knights have been playing Big Band music for over 20 years. The group has been known as the “Best Kept Secret in Zanesville!”
The ensemble is made up of local musicians who have a love for Jazz and Big Band music, including several high school and college musicians playing on a regular basis.
Local vocalists also lend their talents to the group, making for a wide variety of musical entertainment.
The group is a traditional big band with trumpets, trombones, saxes and a rhythm section. They perform traditional arrangements of Big Band standards to modern arrangements of popular songs arranged for Big Bands.
The concert, which will be held at Ohio University Zanesville’s Elson Hall Auditorium, is free and open to the community. For more information about the Third Thursday event series contact Cindy Linn at Linnc@ohio.edu.
