Coming off of a doubleheader sweep of Cumberlands, the Rio Grande Redstorm (22-13) looks to keep their winning ways going as they face off against a pair of Mid-South Conference foes. Rio Grande takes on the Bluefield Rams (3-37) on Friday and the Pikeville Bears (13-22) on Saturday.
The last time the ‘Storm faced off against the last-place Rams, Rio Grande came away with two victories. The RedStorm took the first game, 2-0, and the second, 5-4. Jenna Jones was the standout for the RedStorm in game one, as she only gave up one hit, struck out four and surrendered no walks. Kim Rollins also led the team offensively in game two with two hits and a RBI.
It was also a sweep for the RedStorm last time they squared off against Pikeville. In a 2-0 game one victory, Jones pitched a no-hitter. It would have been a perfect game, if not for a lone walk. Haley Gwin also had a homerun during the outing and a RBI. The bats were alive in Rio Grande’s 7-3 game two victory. The ‘Storm were able to get nine hits off of Lauren Barnes and Miranda Ownes. Ariel Roder and Rollins both had a homerun for Rio. Roder also led the team with two RBI.
Both doubleheaders start at 2 p.m.
