The state has moved a condemned Ohio killer spared by Gov. John Kasich off death row to a new prison in the northeast part of the state.

Kasich called irregularities in the court proceedings against Arthur Tyler troubling in announcing his decision Wednesday to grant Tyler mercy.

Kasich rejected an Ohio Parole Board recommendation that the 54-year-old Tyler be made eligible for parole and possible release and instead commuted his sentence to life without parole.

The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction says it transferred Tyler Wednesday night from death row in Chillicothe to Trumbull Correctional Institution, one step down from a maximum security facility.

Tyler was scheduled to die May 28 for the killing of Cleveland produce vendor Sander Leach during a robbery.
