The Ohio University Alumni Association will host the first-ever “On the Green Weekend,” May 30 through June 1.

On the Green is a spring sister event to the annual Homecoming festivities, focusing on academics and the arts at the university.

Art-related programs and events will be ongoing throughout the weekend, including an exhibit highlighting OU’s Chillicothe Campus and its impact on the southeast Ohio region.

On display in Trisolini Gallery in Baker University Center, the exhibit features a quilt made by the children of the campus’s Child Development Center, a video highlighting the campus’s role in the region and other pieces. The gallery will be open May 29 through May 31, from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m.

On May 30, alumni can take in a performance of Lend Me a Tenor by the Ohio University Lancaster campus’s performing arts department. The 7:30 p.m. show will be held at Baker University Center Theatre. Admission is free.

On May 31, the alumni association will host an On the Green Weekend Ohio Film Fest at the Athena Cinema on Court Street. Join other Bobcats from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for documentary films by Ohio University filmmakers, including: Where’s the Fair, a documentary about the World’s Fair; Ohio Women: 1940 – 2010 and The 1900: Voices from the Athens Asylum.

Additionally, The Longest Day, based on the 1959 history book of the same name by Cornelius Ryan, will screen at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Athena Cinema. University Libraries Curator of Manuscripts Doug McCabe will host a talk after the 9 a.m. screening.

The Ohio University Libraries’ Cornelius Ryan Collection includes about 21,000 primary sources Ryan accumulated for several books he authored about World War II, including The Longest Day, a best-selling account of D-Day.

On May 31, “Play on the Green” will also be held. This event offers alumni and community members a chance to show off their golfing skills and win prizes on the OU Golf Course. Registration for the golf event is open until Thursday at www.ohio.edu/alumni/onthegreen.

On the Green Weekend will also feature alumni college courses, lunch receptions, parties at various downtown bars and pubs, a fitness run/walk, dinners, the “OH, I dO!” vow renewal ceremony and more.
