Ohio Patrol Arrests Nearly 750 For OVI On Holiday Weekend

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Monday that it made 749 arrests over the July 4 weekend for impaired driving and 318 arrests on drug-related charges.

Twelve people died in 11 crashes from July 3-6. Four of those crashes were OVI-related. In 2013, six people died over the holiday reporting period, which was only a two-day stretch.

Troopers also issued 6,429 citations this year for safety belt violations and 2,975 citations for aggressive driving.

Of the nearly 57,000 traffic contacts, here were the local numbers for southeastern Ohio counties:

-Athens: 886

-Jackson: 795

-Gallia: 499

-Meigs: 469

-Hocking: 300

-Vinton: 208

-Morgan: 73

-Perry: 45

Franklin County led the state with 3,465 contacts.
